Lyrics

when I’m not in the kitchen when I’m not busy cleaning up when I don’t need to entertain you when I’m not needed at the club when I am not dragging dead horses not trying to find my place when I am not trying to process all that matters of that day when I am not working even not from home you may find me making my own song when I’m not changing any diapers when I’m not running for president no one in the office is asking for consent not trying to worship driving everybody everywhere around no making myself particularly proud swiping through my Instagram account not preaching or praying or worrying of doing that wrong not hunting any zombies or making love all night long you may find me polishing up my song another song another song it can’t wait any longer another song another song I won’t sing anything of any other as long as I am not done with my own song everybody is allowed to sing along and to clap with the rhythm as the beat goes on and on you may hum, you may tap, you make swing as I am bringing it home but in the end only you can make the best of your own song another song another song it can’t wait any longer another song another song just won’t sing anything of any other as long as I am not done with my own song in case I was missing in case I wasn’t listening it should be indicated might got fascinated finally found the time to do like Dylan and Young yes I’m about to finish up I’m about to finish up I’m about to finish up my song

The story behind the song

We are constantly distracted and often find excuses not to create—whether it’s writing a song, making art, or pursuing creativity. A major influence for this song is Tolkien’s story “Leaf by Niggle,” which tells of a painter who struggles to complete his masterpiece because the demands of daily life, family, and neighbors consume his time. When his life ends, however, he finds himself in the afterlife, where he encounters the tree he had always envisioned—only now it is even more magnificent. This story reflects the drive to create something beautiful, something larger than life itself, and the challenge of actually bringing it to completion. That is the essence of this song.
