Lyrics

There is a man taking care There is a guy losing himself There is a boy maturing Becoming a father, nothing else Don’t you say The things you can’t say Don’t ask too much Put your guns away Carry on father, carry on then The bee will sting, a leg will break You are the one to raise them An eye on your daughter An eye on your son Keep an eye while they’re growing And make sure they’re having fun Dragging on and working on, dragging on Dragging on and working on, dragging on Dragging on, you are working on, you are dragging on Dragging on and working on and dragging on O Mother, She is always close to you You can smother them in your love You can lose them in your truth Cold truth Hear them playing Listen to how they ring Hear them humming Along with the songs you sing Dragging on and working on, dragging on

The story behind the song

Written at the piano as a prayer. Heard my daughter singing along on the recording without realising — she'd been there the whole time.

Recorded and mixed and mastered in Home Studio Tonneau
